Brachial Neuritis
Also called Parsonage-Turner syndrome. It starts with sudden, severe, deep pain in the shoulder and upper arm, followed days or weeks later by weakness and muscle wasting as the pain subsides. It is distinct from SIRVA, though the two are often confused.
Signs to look for
- Sudden, intense shoulder or arm pain, often worse at night
- Weakness that develops as the pain fades
- Muscle wasting in the shoulder girdle
- Numbness or tingling in the arm
